Custom electrical and auto parts plastic injection mold molding services
What is Plastic Injection Molding?
Injection molding is a manufacturing process that consists of filling a metal mold cavity with liquid plastic resin, which then cools and forms a plastic part.
It's most often used for the manufacturing plastic parts at scale due to its low material waste and low cost per part. It’s an ideal manufacturing process for industries like medical devices, consumer products, and automotive.
Precision plastic injection features
The dimensional repeatability of injection molded products is very high, and the accuracy is usually 0.01 ~ 0.001mm.
|
It requires precision injection molding machine, high injection pressure, fast injection speed and accurate temperature control. |
Injection mold design and mold manufacturing requirements are very high, and manufacturers with rich experience in precision plastic injection molding can be competent.
|
Plastic raw materials used for plastic molding manufacturing must meet the following requirements:
|
Gears: High-tolerance, durable gears for mechanical and electronic devices.
Housings: Strong housings for electronics, automotive parts, and industrial machines.
Enclosures: Precise enclosures for electronics, protecting internal components.
Handles: Ergonomic, durable handles for tools, appliances, and products.
Caps and Closures: Efficient caps and closures for bottles, ensuring tight seals.
Connectors: Small, intricate connectors for electrical and electronic needs.
Injection Molding Processes
Plastic Injection Molding
Plastic injection molding is a versatile manufacturing process that utilizes high-pressure injection of molten plastic into a mold cavity to produce a wide range of complex and durable plastic products. This is an ideal process for producing large volumes of standardized parts with excellent mechanical properties.
|
Insert Molding
Insert molding involves the injection of molten thermoplastic around a pre-placed insert to create strong, durable parts. This technique offers advantages like reduced assembly time, improved product reliability and the ability to combine multiple materials in a single part.
|
Overmolding
Overmolding is a process in which multiple shots of thermoplastic are injected over or around a substrate to create highly customizable parts. This technique offers versatility and customization options, allowing for the creation of complex and multi-material products with enhanced performance and visual appeal.
|
Micro Molding
Micro molding is a specialized variation of the injection molding process used to produce small parts with complex geometries. This process allows for the creation of extremely small shot weights, making it a popular option for medical devices, electronics and automotive applications. Micro molding can produce components as small as 0.00025 cc with high quality and repeatability and is compatible with a variety of materials such as PEEK, ABS, Pebax and polypropylene.
|
Automobile parts injection molding material
Acetal and Delrin:Acetal and Delrin offer high tensile strength, and excellent overall durability since its highly wear resistant and has a low coefficient of friction. It's also resistant to chemicals and solvents.
Liquid Silicone Rubber:We stock several grades of liquid silicone rubber materials, including fluorosilicone for parts that require fuel resistance.
Filled and Unfilled Nylon:Nylon is a go-to material choice within the automotive industry due its well rounded mechanical properties that can be enhanced with fillers like glass and mineral.
The process is conducive to the production of automotive plastic parts for several reasons:
Repeatability
In the automotive industry, repeatability - or the ability to consistently produce the same parts - is critical. Because automotive plastic injection molding typically relies on sturdy metal molds, the final molded automotive parts produced using molds are virtually identical. Some factors can affect injection molding, but if the mold is well designed and finished, injection molding is a highly repeatable process.
|
Material Availability
A significant benefit of using injection molding for automotive production is the wide range of rigid, flexible, and rubber plastics the process is compatible with. Manufacturers use a wide range of different polymers for various applications in the automotive industry, including ABS, polypropylene, acrylic, acetal, nylon, polycarbonate, and more.
|
High precision and surface finish
Injection molding is ideal for the production of plastic parts with relatively simple geometry and high surface finish. Manufacturers have many surface treatment options when producing parts, including a variety of surface textures - such as smooth, rough or matte - that are applied directly to the mold rather than the molded part. However, different plastic materials can also affect the final surface finish.
|
Rapid prototyping and quick tools
Although injection molding is widely used by automakers to mass-produce auto parts, they also use it as a prototyping tool. With rapid mold manufacturing fast, low-cost aluminum molds - usually through additive manufacturing or CNC machining - automotive mold manufacturers can complete short-term production of prototype molded automotive parts much faster than traditional (steel) molds.
